arms pumping like pistons, fast hands moving in blurred motions. As the kids
warmed up for the Crazy-Cups Challenge, the cycle stack sequence seemed
flawless. Upstacking... downstacking... 3-6-3... 6-6... turn, tap and click clack
slam! Satisfied smiles suppressing the growing nervousness within.
Confident stackers walked up to the judges. With their knees bent in anticipation, sweat began to break and hands became stiff. Some nervousness took over as stacks collapsed, cups flying all over and stackers on all fours scrambling for the cups that shouldn't be on the floor. Winning performances were greeted by loud cheers from the crowd, and the victors punched in the air triumphantly. As competitors walked back to the rest area after a challenge, strangers became friends, eagerly discussing their performances like they compare the answers of an examination they just completed.
At the end of the day, winning or losing didn't seem that important. As the competitors walked away from the judges for the last time, they breathed a sigh of relief, glad that the highly anticipated yet unexpectedly pressurizing and challenging event was over.
Held at Ngee Ann Primary School, this year's Crazy-Cups Challenge 2006 received overwhelming support from 10 schools. The teachers somehow found time to organize and sent strong teams despite the heavy workload at the end of the school year:
